MAJOR PASSONS (Parents: Thomas PASSONS and unknown wife), b. 17 Feb
1791, Pendleton District, SC. Married Anna ANDERSON (b. 8 Jan 1794, VA - d. 12 Aug 1866,
buried in Long Cemetery, Van Buren Co., TN), in White Co., TN. Major died 24 Jul 1876, Van
Buren Co., TN. Buried in Long Cemetery Van Buren Co., TN Died at 85 years old. Major
served in the War of 1812 with Davy Crockett from Franklin County, Tennessee. He was one
of Major William Russell's Company of Mounted spies and Gunmen. He participated in the
Battle of New Orleans with Andrew Jackson's Volunteers. His father, Thomas, served in the
same company.

TILFORD A. PASSONS (1st child of Major PASSONS and Anna
ANDERSON), b. 26 Aug 1818, White Co., TN, m. Sarah Moore HUTSON (b. 18 Jan 1820, White
Co., TN) 24 Aug 1836, White Co., TN (granddaughter of Abel Hutson and Sarah MOORE HUTSON,
and John W. KNOWLES). Moved from White to Warren Co., TN. In 1840, the land in Warren Co.
Major owned became part of newly created Van Buren Co., TN. As a farmer and brick mason,
he built his own home and perhaps other buildings in Van Buren Co. His 12 children include
one set of twins. Tilford died in Soldier's Hospital, Nashville, TN on 26 Nov 1861. He is
either buried in Mt Pisgah Cemetery, White Co., TN in an unmarked grave or in Long
Cemetery in an unmarked grave. He was paid $33.34 for his military service from 31 Oct
1861 to 26 Nov 1861. He died from a disease while in the Civil War.

ANDREW JACKSON PASSONS (4th child of Tilford PASSONS and
Sarah Moore HUTSON), b. 27 Dec 1843, Van Buren Co., TN, m. Margaret Eugenia COTTON (b. 8
Feb 1853, Warren Co. TN, d. 12 Mar 1916), 16 Jul 1871, Baliff Ferry, White Co., TN
(daughter of William Felson COTTON and Patunia LANDRUM COTTON). He died 20 Nov 1888, Cane
Ridge, Van Buren Co., TN. Buried in Long Cemetery, Van Buren Co., TN. Named after General
and later President Andrew Jackson, with whom his grandfathers, Major PASSONS and Matthias
HUTSON, served during the War of 1812. He joined other family members in Company I, 16th
Regiment, TN Infantry, Confederate Army 1 Aug 1862, at Chattanooga, TN.
He was captured in Calhoun, GA 14 May 1864. Before 10 Jun 1864, Andrew
was discharged from the Confederate Army and joined the Union Navy. He was discharged from
the Navy on 27 Jun 1865 at the port in New York City. It took him 2 years to get back
home. Some speculated that it was due to disgrace because of joining the Union Navy, but
others say it was due to a sickness and memory loss.
