HENRY SULLIVAN, B. CA. 1788, PA; m. Polly "Mary" LANE / Polly "Mary" LAIN (ca. 1796, VA, daughter of Henry LANE / Henry LAIN, Greene Co., TN and granddaughter of Cornelius LANE / Cornelius LAIN), 26 Mar 1812, Greene Co., TN. Our line of the SULLIVAN family came to PA from Ireland. Their name in Ireland was O'SULLIVAN. Some descendants believe our family came from County Cork, probably landing at the Port of Philadelphia. A Henry O'SULLIVAN was baptized in Ballyhay, County Cork, Ireland, on 27 Jun 1746. He was the son of John O'SULLIVAN. This Henry is believed to be the father of our Henry born around 1788 in PA. We know that our SULLIVAN line descended from Henry SULLIVAN born around 1788 in PA. He later settled in Bledsoe Co., TN.

JAMES SULLIVAN ( 5th child of Henry SULLIVAN and Polly LANE SULLIVAN), b. 1825, Bledsoe Co., TN, m. Lucinda Jane BLACK (b. ca. 1832 in NC, d. after 1880, ? Warren Co., TN, parents thought to be Richard BLACK and Jane BLACK). He served in the Civil War, 16th Confederate Tennessee Infantry. Richard and Jane Black were said to be Cherokee Indians. Family legend has it that James Sullivan traded Richard Black buttons and other items for his daughter's hand in marriage. Lucinda's Indian name was said to be "Flower of the Morning." The Blacks disappeared after the 1870 census records were taken in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. Lucinda birth place was listed as North Carolina and her sister's was listed as Georgia. Family members say that Lucinda was part of the Manito Indians which were suppose to be part of the Cherokees. There were McIntosh Indians living in the area of Long Island near South Pittsburg, Tennessee in Marion County. Some of the family members thought the Black family lived on Long Island when James and Lucinda were married. No marriage records have been found for them. It is thought that they had an Indian marriage and they weren't recorded.
