Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Group of Southwest Michigan is devoted to the practice and study of teachings by Tibetan
meditation master, artist, and scholar Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. We are affiliated with
Shambhala International, a network of many similar groups in the United States, Canada, and

The Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Group of Southwest Michigan meets at 1611 Centre Ave., Suite 208, in Portage, Michigan and hosts an ongoing weekly class, along with day-long and half-day introductory programs, Shambhala Training Heart of Warriorship programs, group practice days (nyinthun), and contemplative art programs.
The core practice of Shambhala is mindfulness-awareness meditation. This meditation practice enables us to look precisely at our state of mind, moment by moment. By not manipulating or altering our experience, we truly make friends with ourselves as we are, unconditionally. From that, we develop natural openness and genuine compassion towards ourselves and our world.
"What has always been our primary objective and duty is the cultivation and establishment of a sane community, sane sangha, sane domain – one where the display of phenomenal kleshas can dance and play in the open meadow of Shambhala sanity." — Sakyong Mipham
