Pinewood Derby 2008

Rules & Specifications

Please follow the rules and use your common sense. We do not want to disqualify a Cub's car due to a misdirected adult.

  1. Your assigned number is on the box of your car. You must use this number and the numeric details provided for our ease of recognition of the car at the finish line.
  2. Follow the rules in your Grand Prix car kit.
  3. All cars must pass inspection to qualify for the race.
  4. DO NOT change axle forward, backward, or raise or lower axle.
  5. Wheels shall not be modified other than removing the seam from the tread area as instructed in the instructions. Cars will be disqualified if the sides of the wheels are changed (machined, sanded, etc.) in any manner. Narrow wheels will not be allowed. Wheels may be lubricated with powdered graphite only.
  6. After inspection and wighing is completed, cars will be kept in an impound area.
  7. All cars will run by numbers only. Winners will be determined by double elimination.
  8. If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, interferes with another car or loses an axle, etc., the heat will be run over. If the same car gets into trouble on the second run, the contestant automatically loses the race.
  9. Awards will be presented at the end of each class race.
  10. All Cubs must be in uniform and show good sportsmanship

 

INSPECTION POINTS

  1. CAR MUST HAVE BEEN MADE THIS YEAR.
  2. Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
  3. Length shall not exceed 7-3/8 inches.
  4. Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
  5. 3/8 clearance from bottom of car to track must be maintained.
  6. Nails & wheels shall be official cub scout equipment. NO SINGLE AXLES.
  7. Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited.
  8. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs.
  9. Details added must be within length, width and weight limits.
  10. The car must be free-wheeling with no starting devices.
  11. No loose materials of any kind will be allowed on the car.
  12. Taped or liquid weight(s) are not allowed.

 

IMPOUND AREA RULES

  1. Cars will not be moved until called to race.
  2. Each Cub will handle his own car at authorized times. NO PARENTS IN THE RACING AREA!
  3. NO LUBRICATION OF WHEELS AFTER CAR IS IMPOUNDED.
  4. Repairs will be made under the supervision of race officials.

 

ALL DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES AND STAFF ARE FINAL.
