Small Shrine (2)

Two other men and myself spent the night on a listening post about thirty feet in frount of this shrine.

The moon was so bright you could see the dial on your watch, as we lay there in a small hollow in the ground.

Around one in the morning what sounded like several people (not our people) walked up to the shrine.

Walked around and made noise, then left, as we lay there in the open

About ten mimutes later the VC probed our lines about 100 yards to the right from where we lay.

Earlier in the day I had cleaned the shrine. Sweept out the dirt, put the rice bowls back and fixed a Broken statue as best I could and put it back inside.

Later I asked a Vietnamese man what kind of a shrine it was, he said it was a family shrine and anyone who treated it with respect would have good luck.

Just perhaps he was right on the good luck part
