UW Eau Claire Downs UW Whitewater for Softball Title
The UW Eau Claire softball team beat conference rival UW Whitewater in Salem, Virginia to win the NCAA Division III Championship. After being down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, the Blugolds turned it up a notch to force extra innings, and
defeated the Warhawks 4-3 in nine innings with a walk-off home run by senior Jill
Janke.
The matchup between the Blugolds and Warhawks represented the third time in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history two schools
met for a national championship - in any sport - and the first-ever meeting between two league opponents for the national title in softball.
The Blugolds end their season with a 36-11 record, while Whitewater fell to 39-11.

North and Watson Are Legends of the Legends
Andy North and Tom Watson teamed for a better-ball 64 at The Club at Savannah Harbor for a 31-under 185 total edging Craig Stadler and Jeff Sluman by a stroke in the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. North earned $225,000 for his share of this win. This was North's first win-or share of a win-since the 1985 U.S. Open at Oakland Hills.
To get into the Legends Division, North was one of four who needed a sponsor exemption. North, who has had 11 operations for various injuries, spends most of his time doing television work for ABC and ESPN. Being part of the winning team now makes North exempt, but he doesn't expect to use his new playing privileges. The PGA Tour's intrepid stats crew figured it was 22 years, 10 months, 11 days since North's last win.

Tim Coghlin became the first person in NCAA Division III history to play on and coach a national men’s ice hockey champion. Coghlin was the captain of UW-Stevens Point’s 1989 national championship squad.
