Feb 12, 1955 Marquette defeated Bowling Green 101-56 and then two nights later downed Detroit 100-81 for the only time in school history that Marquette scored back to back 100 point games. Two nights after that (2/16) they almost made it three beating Bradley 93-83.
Feb 13, 1972 Milwaukee Bucks Kareem Abdul Jabbar scored 51 against the Boston Celtics. He had scored a Bucks record 55 just two months earlier against the Celtics and he had scored 53 against the Celts a year earlier. The Bucks would beat the Celtics 117-109 in Boston.
Feb 14, 1989 UW-Parkside’s Andy Schmidtmann set the NCAA Division II record when he hit 14 three point shots in one game. He did it against Lakeland College and took 32 three pointers in the game which is also a D2 record. The all time record is 19 in one game set in 1998 by a division III player. The D1 record is 15. Andy Schmidtmannn scored 52 points for UW-Parkside in a 105-71victory over Lakeland. In February 2000, Markus Hallgrimson of Montana State-Billings set the new DII record with 16.
Feb 15, 1964 Ohio State’s Gary Bradds scored 40 points against the Wisconsin Badgers at Ohio State. It marked the sixth consecutive Big Ten game in which Bradds scored at least 40 points. That set an all time Big Ten record. He started the streak on Jan 25 against Purdue with 47 and set the Ohio State single game record with 49 on Feb. 10 against Illinois.
Feb 16, 1955 After losing the season opener to Michigan State, Marquette’s men’s basketball team won its 20th straight game and posted its 20th win of the season marking the first time the team had won 20 games in a season. The Warriors beat Bradley 93-83 in Peoria for the win. Marquette would go on to win 22 straight games before losing to Notre Dame in Milwaukee in the final game of the regular season. Marquette would get a bid to the NCAA Mideast Regional and beat Miami (OH) in a first round game, beat Kentucky two days later, but finally fall to Iowa 86-81 in the third round. The season ended 24-3.
Feb 17, 1923 Wisconsin and Marquette met for the first time in hockey. The Badgers won the game 3-1 in Madison. The two teams would meet later in the season in Milwaukee for the final two games of the season. The first ended 1-1 and the second ended 2-2. The Badgers played 11 games this season, but played only three teams. They played four straight games against Michigan, two home games with Minnesota, Marquette, two road games with Minnesota and two road games with Marquette. Marquette played only five games against two teams. Three against the Badgers and two losses to Michigan.
Feb 18, 1967 Wisconsin downs Iowa 96-95 in Iowa City in three overtimes. It’s the first triple overtime game by the Badgers in 42 years, and the first one they won. The first triple OT game ended in a 25-25 tie with DePauw. Chuck Nagle hit a shot from behind the basket with 7 seconds left for the win. He finished with 26 points. James Johnson also had 26.
