Feb 5, 1958 Marquette's Mike Moran scored a school record 44 points as the Warriors downed Creighton 94-48. Moran hit 16 field goals and 12 free throws for the record. Tony Smith would equal the mark 31 years later. Three nights later Marquette went to Creighton to play the Bluejays and won that game 78-70. It’s the third and last time that Marquette has played back-to-back games against the same team.
Feb 6, 2010 In front of a school-record crowd of 55,031 fans, the No. 3 Wisconsin men’s hockey team defeated the No. 19 Michigan Wolverines in the Culver’s Camp Randall Hockey Classic 3-2. The victory -- which happend in front of the second-largest crowd to ever watch a collegiate hockey game -- came on a pair of third-period power-play goals by junior defenseman Brendan Smith.
Feb 7, 1976 Wisconsin and Purdue combined for a Big Ten record when the two teams hit all 47 free throws they attempted. Purdue beat the Badgers 85-74. The Boilers hit 25, the Badgers 22.
Feb 8, 1936 San Francisco University running back Russ Letlow was the first number one draft pick in Green Bay Packer history. He would play from 1936-42 and again in 1946.
Feb 9, 1964 Stan Hayes, an 8th grader from Crandon, was recognized as the champion in the first Eagle River snowmobile championships. He had never raced a snowmobile before that day.
Feb 10, 1980 Marquette played Duke in a Marquette home game at the Dane County Coliseum in Madison. Marquette won the game 80-77. Duke was ranked 10.
Feb 11, 1976 Mequon resident and Madison LaFollette grad Peter Mueller won the Olympic gold medal in the 1,000 meter speed skating race in Innsbruck, Austria.
