A Message to Our Farmers and Vendors from Your Market Manager: Last year's move onto the grass and under the trees of the Historic Downtown Square was an interesting learning experience. In the post-season assessment of the Market it was decided that due to space constraints and parking limitations the Market will downsize slightly. The goal is to offer a more diverse selection of locally-grown produce while still offering our customers the selection they have come to expect. The same holds true for the other vendors and craftspeople. Space is also being set aside to add some interesting new vendors, such as suppliers of fresh and frozen meats.
This year membership at the Market will be by invitation only. The invitations will go out in mid-March. Anyone who has not previously been a vendor at the Market can email the Market manager to begin a dialog as to whether there may be additional space available for their products. Contact information is located at the bottom of these pages.
BUY FRESH, BUY LOCAL
Our goal is to provide the freshest, highest quality, homegrown produce in the area, while assisting the farmers and vendors in having a successful location to market their produce, products and crafts. All products sold at the Gainesville Market are grown within our local area, and are sold by the person who grew or made it, or by an immediate family member or employee. This insures that any questions our customers may have can be answered by someone who knows what went into growing the produce or making the products available at the Market.
All homemade canned products, baked goods, and freshly prepared foods are produced in state-approved and licensed kitchens.
SEASONAL AVAILABILITY
Many plants and specialty items are available from opening day until the end of the season. However, produce items depend on growing time and are available at different times during the season. Cool season vegetables, like lettuce and greens, are ready in May. Tomatoes and peppers, which need warmer weather to grow, will be ready by late June or early July.
