Investigation backwards to 1870 (United States) is guaranteed.  It is possible, depending on your family's historical circumstances, that the trace can be extended beyond the *1870 wall of bondage & slavery.  All research documents will be surrendered to you upon completion of the project.</B></I></FONT></div> <div> <I><B> </B></I></div> <div> <I><B>...*</B></I>Before 1863 when the Emancipation Proclamation declared all slaves to be free, our people who were slaves were not counted uniformly as being citizens.  Therefore, they were not allowed to be counted on Census rolls in the southern states and were not issued birth, death or marriage certificates.  Our first census as a free people was the 1870 Census.  At that time, many of our people were migratory and reluctant to participate in the 1870 census even then for fear of being put back into bondage.  So the 1870 Census is not complete where our people are concerned.  The 1880 Census was considered to be the best census for people of African descent, for our people had by then settled into their permanent homes and were confidently participating in their new-found citizenship.</div> <bR> </td> </tr></table></body>
