John 10:22-23
22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication,
and it was winter.
23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.
John 10:22-30
Further Discussion over the Identity of Jesus. Probably
an interval of about two months separated this occasion from the preceding.
The Feast of Tabernacles belonged to the fall of the year, and the Feast
of the Dedication came in the winter. This celebration memorialized the
cleansing and rededication of the Temple by Judas Maccabaeus after the
sacrilege committed by Antiochus Epiphanes. The year was 165 B.C

Jesus dying out to his human self.
Matt 26:38-44
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful,
even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face,
and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from
me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them
asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation:
the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying,
O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it,
thy will be done.
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their
eyes were heavy.
Heb 5:7-8
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up
prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was
able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the
things which he suffered;
The conversion of Paul.
Acts 9:1-6
9:1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter
against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues,
that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might
bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly
there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying
unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said,
I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the
pricks.
6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt
thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the
city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
Acts 9:10-12
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named
Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold,
I am here, Lord.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the
street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for
one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming
in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
Acts 9:13-18
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many
of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests
to bind all that call on thy name.
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is
a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings,
and the children of Israel:
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer
for my name's sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house;
and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus,
that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou
mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had
been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
We must die out to our own selfish interests.
Matt 16:24-27
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will
come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow
me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and
whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole
world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for
his soul?
Paul said he had to die daily.
1 Cor 9:25-27
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate
in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an
incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I,
not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:
lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should
be a castaway.
