Early History
Back in the late 1930's, Grace Tabernacle in Longview, Washington was teaching
people about the Love of Jesus Christ and the Salvation he brought us.
In turn, many of these Christians went on to do Gods work in various personal
ministries. A group of earnest Christian workers from Grace Tabernacle
wanted to carry on an interdenominational Christian Work by means of the
distribution of literature, personal evangelism and visitation work.
In June of 1940, they founded The Gospel Lifeline League, Inc., based in
West Kelso, Washington. This would be a vehicle recognized by state
and federal governments by which they could carry on their work.
Gospel Lifeline was formed as a self-governing body, founded on the
Scriptures, to propagate a working fellowship amongst Fundamental Christian
Ministers, Missionaries, and other Christian Workers.
By 1948, the organization had become certified for intrastate operations
in California and Oregon.
More recently, the name of the organization was changed to Gospel Lifeline
Ministries in 1994.
In 1996, the headquarters was moved to California.
While the mantle of leadership has changed hands many times over the
decades, the purpose of the organization remains steadfast.
In addition to ministering to the needy in our own backyards for over
60 years, Gospel Lifeline members have distributed Bibles in Russia, funded
a Pastoral Retreat facility in Costa Rica, and many other overseas missions.
Purpose Statement
The Gospel Lifeline Ministries is an interdenominational, non-profit, evangelical
Christian Association, instituted for six general purposes.
1. To bring the Gospel of Christ to the neglected and the unchurched,
whether in shops, stores, hospitals, sanitariums, penal institutions, in
the homes, on the streets, in the churches, and to do general Domestic
and Foreign Missionary and Gospel Work.
2. To distribute Bibles, Testaments, Gospel Tracts, or other forms
of Christian literature, with the primary aim of bringing souls to Christ,
and that of making better citizens of all those whom this ministry shall
reach.
3. The relief of suffering, ministering to the sick and shut-ins,
and to bring comfort to the bereaved and needy.
4. To promote fellowship among God's people, afford mutual protection,
aid and recognition before the public, and the propagation of an interdenominational,
evangelical Domestic & Foreign Missionary work, with the primary aim
of spreading the Gospel benefits among those who are unchurched or underprivileged.
5. To acquire and administer funds for educational and Missionary
purposes such as shall be necessary for the proper operation of a Christian
Association.
6. To purchase and dispose of property, both real and personal,
which shall be deemed essential in providing for the necessary facilities
of the Ministry.
Doctrinal Basis
The Doctrinal Statement of Gospel Lifeline Ministries may be summarized
as follows:
1. The Word of God
The word of God is accepted in the entirety as the very Word of God, wholly
inspired and absolutely infallible, and is our only source of Spiritual
Light and Truth. It gives us our True revelation of the fundamental
Doctrines including our knowledge of Salvation, and of the true origin
of all things, and of the hereafter. It is the final court of appeals
on all points of doctrine as touching life and godliness (II Tim. 3:16-17;
II Peter 1:21; Heb. 4:12-13).
2. God the Creator, Jesus the Savior
We believe God to be the Creator of all things, and the Author of Eternal
redemption. We believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as man's only and
all sufficient Savior. we believe Him to be the Very Son of God,
and co-Creator of all things with the Father, and the appointed Judge of
all men. (Col. 1:12-19; Acts 17:31).
3. The Birth, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
We emphatically embrace the Bible account of Christ's Virgin Birth, His
vicarious death, His appointed burial, His bodily resurrection, His ascension
on High, His high priestly work in the Heavens, and His imminent return
to rapture the righteous, living and dead, to execute judgment upon the
wicked, to establish His everlasting Kingdom among men, and finally to
surrender all things back to the Father again that God may be all in all.
4. The Holy Spirit
We acknowledge the Blessed Holy Spirit as the Comforter and as the Divine
agency in Regeneration, as the Administrator of the great process of redemption
as the Revealer of Christ, especially in relation to His work on the Cross
and as the "Distributor" of the Gifts and Graces bestowed upon the church.
5. Water Baptism and Communion
We believe in the two ordinances of the Church established by Jesus Christ:
First, Water Baptism by immersion, as a symbol of our Death, Burial and
Resurrection with Christ; second, the Lord's Supper, as a means of Fellowship,
and to partake of Divine benefits bequeathed to believers through the reverent
observance of the perpetual Ordinance.
