Welcome to the Bluff City Police Department’s web site.  My name is David Nelson and I am the Chief of Police.  I began my career with the Bluff City Police Department in August of 1997.  Before employed here, I worked for the Carter County Sheriff’s Office for 7 years. 
 
It has been my privilege to serve this community for the last 10 years.  It is with pride that I say Bluff City is a great place to live. 
 
Departmental growth has been constant over the past few years, with the number of commissioned officers now at 10 as we continue to grow.  We strive to provide high standards and work to maintain a good reputation with the citizens of this city.  Our focus is to provide excellent police services to this community. 
 
Recently, homeland security seems to be the buzz word in law enforcement.  Our efforts are directed toward patrol in order to maintain a visual and constant presence within the community. 
 
The success of our department comes from the efforts of our employees and input from the citizens that we serve.  We are dedicated to the concept of community policing which includes taking reports on matters that may otherwise be deemed minor, but to the victims are serious and by doing this we can connect with our citizens. 
 
One of our primary goals is to keep the streets of Bluff City free from dangerous drivers.  Much has been said about the large amount of traffic enforcement here in the city.  We feel that you and your family should feel safe driving on our streets, working and playing around your home, without the fear of speeders and reckless drivers.  When you see a police car with a violator pulled over, remember we are enforcing the laws to protect you and your family.
