Dear Parents:
With the Fourth of July over I feel many of you may be anxious for opening day (well at least the children are!), I thought a few reminders were in order. Enclosed you will find the school calendar, a Volunteer Form, a Scrip order form, a tuition notice for the coming year, a copy of your Memorandum of Understanding, and a letter from each of your children’s teachers.
Brittany Miller is our new Prekindergarten teacher. Brittany Graduated in 2002 from Mt. Aloysius with a BS degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and is stated certified. You can meet her August 18th at Meet the Teachers Night, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Our numbers are small in Prekindergarten, if you know of any potential students please ask them to contact me for an interview. I am usually available in the office throughout the summer.
Revised handbooks will be sent home on the first day of class, August 25, 2004.
The handbooks contain our dress code. The dress code states “dress shoes such as penny loafers, ties or docksiders should be worn. No clogs, sandals, platforms, sneakers, work style boots, or shoes, or any shoe with a heel higher than 1 inch will be permitted.” Colors of black, brown, or burgundy are appropriate. If there are medical reasons that special footwear is necessary, please present a letter from your family physician for exemption from this policy.
Khaki dress shorts may be worn until October 1, 2003. Skorts are not part our dress code. Also school socks include, dress socks with the uniforms. Athletic footies and tennis style anklets are not part of our code. White pullovers or golf shirts have been added to our dress code. Any student may wear this style of shirt in place of the white dress shirts. The dress shirt may still be worn also. Make up and finger nail polish should not be worn in school, no matter how indiscreet. Your cooperation on this policy will be greatly appreciated.
The school day begins at 8:00 AM daily. To get ready
for their classes, they should be here by 7:50 AM. If you need to drop your
children off earlier, Before School Care begins at 7:30 AM. Please take your children to the cafeteria,
not the classroom. This year for every five (5) times a student is tardy; a
day of absence will be recorded.
St. John’s School participates in the National School lunch program and serves nutritious hot meals every day. Students should follow the lunch program outlined by Mrs. Price.
Last year, I asked for families to mentor our new school families. As the beginning of the school year draws near I will be calling on you to help out. To date we have at least 8 new families that would appreciate having a mentor family to welcome them into our St. John’s family. As mentors you will be called upon to answer questions that arise throughout the school year and make their transition an easy one.
Tuition envelopes along with your Memorandum of Understanding are enclosed. If you are making 12 payments please begin with July’s tuition. Tuition for the new school year does not reflect any scholarship money. As the diocese allots the Second Century Scholarship money it will be added to the tuition account of the appropriate family.
All tuition should be paid in full by June 30, 2005.
If you still have an outstanding balance from the 2003 - 2004 school year please settle your account ASAP. Your promptness to this matter will be very helpful. A review of your tuition account is enclosed.
You will find a page devoted to volunteering your time and
talents to St. John’s School. Please check all categories for which you would
like to volunteer. We especially need
aides for Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st & 2nd
grade, Scrip volunteers, and cafeteria
and/or playground monitors. Any
help is important. I will try to use everybody that volunteers in his or her
chosen area. Anyone wishing to coach or volunteer for any school activity must
also fill out an application and return it to the school office.
All volunteers must
have the State Police Record Check and Child Abuse History Clearance, sign a
Volunteer's Code of Conduct, fill out a volunteer application, attend training
for Protecting God's Children, be approved by the dioceses, and read all training bulletins. You
can register at www.virtusonline.org,
(password "trust") to attend any session listed in your area.
Information may also be picked up in the school office.
There will be a very important meeting of any one wishing
to be a cafeteria or playground monitor on August 19th at 11:00am in
the school cafeteria.
Physicals for sports at St. John's will be conducted seasonally. St. John School will arrange physicals for each sport before they begin. The there is no cost, however any donations would be accepted. Those donations will go into the Betty Schraff Scholarship Fund. This fund provides 2 scholarships of $200 each for student-athletes going from St. John's to Bishop Guilfoyle. Physical forms and permission slip may be picked up in the office. Watch the bulletin for dates and times.
Please return the appropriate paperwork to the office by the date stated. This will give me a chance to formulate a schedule of volunteers and provide PTO Committee Chairpersons with needed information for our opening day.
Working together we can provide an excellent Christian Value based educational experience for every student. Thank you for your sacrifices, time, and understanding. I hope you are enjoying your children this summer as much as we enjoy them throughout the school year.
Very truly yours,
Gary A. Evangelisto
Principal
