SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST SCHOOL
ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA

RELIGION

Second grade students at St. John's study an introduction to basic Catholicism as well as prepare for the sacrements of reconciliation and first holy euchrist through the Sacremental Preparation Program.

Religion is taught to 5th and 6th Grade students on a rotating schedule in which both grades attend at the same time. Year one of the course of study is the SACRAMENTS, and year two is the study of SALVATION HISTORY. Throughout the year special emphasis is placed on the Catholic Liturgical Seasons and the Lives of the Saints.

Each week for homework students are given the Readings and the Gospel for Thursday's School Mass and it is their responsibility to read and analyze those Readings and be able to discuss them during class.

Several weeks throughout the year 5th and 6th graders are responsible to serve at Mass and on Wednesday before their assigned service students go over to the Church to practice the Readings and music and their various assignments.
