- crankcase breather
Information on this page last updated 2/16/02.
For some reason the older Ducati crankcase breathers always seem to weep a bit of oil and make a mess of the back of the engine over time. One solution, and a nice looking one at that, is the machined aluminum breather from Nichols Manufacturing. This is a very well made piece and seems to take care of the weeping problem.
I'm a sucker for well made bits like this, but in all honesty you could probably take care of the weeping by removing the stock breather, cleaning the threads well, and sealing with something like Yamabond on the threads. I have also heard that the plastic breathers on the 2000 and newer Ducatis do not weep as much, if at all, so installing one of those would also be a cheaper option.
