- brake and clutch levers
Information on this page last updated 08/17/01.
These are the same levers that come on the Ducati 916 (NOT the same as the new 996 levers) and they are adjustable to one of four different positions. The stock ST2 levers were too close to the grips for me, I wanted something with more room for 2-finger use. The adjustable levers cost $115 for the pair and are available from any Ducati dealer (although prices do vary amongst dealers.)
Installation was fairly simple, a very small amount of filing was required to get the ST2 mounts to accept these levers. This is difficult to explain without a picture (I will add a picture here in the future) but I will try. Look at the master cylinder casting specifically the hole that the lever pivot goes through. As the casting extends out from the pivot towards the slot for the lever there is a radiused edge. It is this edge that will just slightly contact the adjusting pivot in the new levers. When you install the new levers you will see when they are pulled in that there is an are of interference such that the lever cannot be pulled back further. I used a small file to remove a some metal from this edge, a few tenths of a mm was all that was required.
The stock setup has locating pins on the master cylinders that prevent them from rotating on the handlebars. I filed these pins off which allowed me to adjust the levers down a bit and as long as the bolts are snug nothing moves around. I adjusted the levers such that my elbow/forearm/wrist were in a straight line when using the levers. For me this made a big difference in hand and wrist comfort.
