- miscellaneous info
Information on this page last updated 08/17/01.
Here are some miscellaneous pieces of information, either from myself or
from discussions with others on the Ducati and ST2 owners mailing lists.
- The swingarm is steel, not aluminum. Mine has started showing some corrosion
around the shock mount weld where the paint did not fully cover. I have oiled it
for now to slow the corrosion but really need to clean and paint that area to
prevent future corrosion.
- The clutch cover is steel, not aluminum, and is of a multi-layer sandwich
construction apparently to reduce noise.
- At least one member of the ST2 owners mailing list has had his alternator
fail several times. The latest guess as to why is that the alternator may not
be getting enough oil to cool it and thus may be overheating. The alternator
is under the left engine side cover, when the engine is running you should
see oil splashing on the sight glass on this cover. If not, the oil passage
in the end of the crank may be blocked an may not be suppliying oil to the
alternator and starter gears/bearings.
If you have not already done so, go read the
FAQ that Perry put together.
Lots of great info there.
