This is a great add on for earlier STs that do not have the stock power outlet. Even if you do have the stock outlet you might consider one of these Powerlets to make it easier to power multiple accessories. The uses are many - charging the battery, powering electronics like GPS or radar detector, powering electric vests or gloves, even monitoring voltage for troubleshooting. You can put something like this together yourself, and I did just that before the Powerlet was developed, using standard BMW-type plugs and sockets available from bike suppliers and even John Deere. But you will likely not be able to duplicate the Powerlet and its quality components for much less money.
