Left: Typical 'A' or 1st Class compartment - 'A Shindaisha' complete with music and TV. As usual, Yukata (Japanese- style bathrobe) and slippers are provided.
2nd from left: Corridor in 'A' class car on the 'Akebono' between Tokyo (Ueno Station) and Aomori across the mountains via Joetsu line, Takasaki, Nigata and the west coast of Japan (Akita).
Right: Conductor of the 'Nihon Kai' (Go-2) between Aomori and Osaka (Umeda) via west coast line Akita, Nigata, Toyama and Kyoto. 'A Shindai shya' open berths in American Pullman-style with upper and lower berths with curtains for privacy.


Left & Right: Upper and lower Pullman-style
berths aboard the 'Nihonkai's 'A' Shindaisha. I had an upper berth and
it had a little upper berth window. As usual. both Yukata and slippers
are provided. The car also had a smoking lounge with a table at the forward
end with the conductor's compartment and baggage locker. You could use
the table to eat from as well.
