John “Saweet” Hensley displays a pegging clinic on his way to recording an 18
point card with +222 Spread Points. Wayne “Super Trooper” Von Clasen, J.R.
“The Spoiler” Cast, and John “Rotten” Reed all tried to give “Saweet” a run for
his money but fell short…each had a 15 point card and finished 2nd, 3rd,
& 4th respectively.

Ms. Sweet
should have stayed at home tonight. She
practically did by only visiting one pegger the entire night. She didn’t move until Game 6 when she found
Wayne “Super Trooper” Von Clasen and helped him double skunk Zeke “Da Zapa”
Blocklinger. For his skill cards, Wayne
received $14 at the end of the night.
EVENT HAPPENINGS
First was John “Saweet” Hensley who
turned in a 18 Gm Pt, 8 W, +222 Sprd Pts card tonight. John steam rolled the
competition tonight by winning 8 games by an average of 29.6 points….with that
average it was odd that he only skunked 2 opponents. John started the night with a skunk and then recorded his second
skunk in Game 5. His only blemish came
in Game 3 when he lost to Pat “Driller” Jungmann. Good job John, keep up the hard work you’re
extending your points lead!
Second was Wayne “Super
Trooper” Von Clasen who turned in a 15 Gm Pt, 7 W, 88 Sprd Pts card. Wayne
gave it his best effort to keep up with “Saweet” but fell a little short. He started the night with 7 straight wins
including a skunk over Zeke “Da Zapa” Blocklinger in Game 6. He then came up against John “Saweet”
Hensley who decided to fight the law and the law didn’t win! John showed Wayne how to record a zero in
the game points column. Wayne couldn’t
pull off the victory in Game 9 either against a tough pegger we all know as Martin
“Ole #1” Hellburg. None the less,
Wayne recorded a 15 point card and slid into 2nd Place on the
evening. Good job Wayne!
Third was J.R. “The
Spoiler” Cast who turned in a 15 Gm Pt, 6 W, +142 Sprd Pts card. We haven’t seen much of J.R. this season but
he showed up tonight and demonstrated to everyone that he can play
cribbage. J.R. had an up and down night
from a win perspective but turned in a 15 point card dispite having three
losses. His losses were to Martin “Ole
#1” Hellberg in Game 2, Mike “Mr. Quizno’s” Clapper in Game 4, and Jim
“Teacher” Duff in Game 6. The loss
to Jim was the toughest…..1 point. That
one point would have givin J.R. two additional game points to finish in 2nd
Place. It goes to show you every point
counts in cribbage. J.R. recorded 3
skunks on the night against Helen “The Hellion” Daniels, “Bad” Betty
Morehouse, and Shirley “Buzz Saw” Guest. Good job J.R., it was good to see you!
Fourth was John “Rotten” Reed who turned in a 15 Gm Pt, 6 W, +117 Sprd Pts
card. John turned in the third 15 point
card of the night! He started off as
good at you can start by winning 6 straight including 3 skunks. The skunks were against Mike “Mr. Quizno’s”
Clapper, “Bad” Betty Morehouse, and Pat “Driller” Jungmann. John finished on a sour note by losing the
last three games to Zeke “Da Zapa” Blocklinger, Dick “The Grumbler”
Taylor, and John “Saweet” Hensley.
Consequently, the 9th game of the night between “Rotten” and “Saweet”
was a battle for 1st Place.
Which ever pegger won the game would have taken 1st Place….”Rotten”
came up a little short and “Saweet” took home top honors. Normally a 15 point card would be enough to
win 2nd place…..not tonight.
Good job John!

CRIBBAGE STRATEGY (By DeLynn Colvert)
Trapping low value
cards -- with the A being the
easiest to trap -- is simply accomplished by running the count to 29 (if
you're holding two As) with one of the As, hoping Jake has a lone a for 30, then adding your last A for 31 and a tidy eight points. With a pair
of 2s, you run the count to 27 with the
first 2. With 3s, run the count to 25 with the first 3. In all cases, the trap, if it works, nets a profit of six
points. Five points if 31 is not reached exactly.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Zeke
"Da Zapa" Blocklinger was the head judge tonight,
thanks for your help. 24 weeks down, 12 to go.....
