These pages chronicle the adventures of Steve "Snuffy" Smith as he section-hikes the Appalachian Trail. He began his adventures in the fall of 1999, with a planned four-day hiking trip from Watauga Lake, TN to Damascus, VA. Although he didn't reach Damascus, and the trip only lasted two days, it started his section-hike adventures.
He picked up in the spring of 2000 with a sixteen-day hiking trip from Springer Mountain, GA to Fontana Dam, NC. In the fall he went back to where he left off the previous year on the Damascus trip and finished that section into Damascus. He then drove to Fontana Dam, NC and hiked through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Garenflo Gap, NC. Three weeks later, over the last weekend in October, he hiked from Garenflo Gap, NC through Hot Springs, NC to Allen Gap, NC.
Starting again in the spring of 2001, he hiked from Allen Gap, NC to Watauga Lake, TN, and in the fall of 2001 hiked from Damascus, VA to Pearisburg, VA. During 2002 he hiked from Pearisburg, VA to Waynesboro, VA, and in 2003 he hiked to Harpers Ferry in the spring and to Delaware Water Gap, PA in the fall. In the spring of 2004 he hiked to Bear Mountain, NY, and in the fall to North Adams, MA, near the Vermont state line. He hiked from North Adams, MA to Pinkham Notch, NH in two hikes during the summer of 2005, and from Pinkham Notch to Monson, and Monson to Mt. Katahdin in 2006, summitting Mt. Katahdin on September 8, 2006
