Springer Mtn, GA to Fontana Dam, NC

AT plaque on Springer Mtn

I immediately began to plan for this trip. When I say plan, what I really mean to say it that I started dreaming again. I gave myself a Christmas present of a new backpack and new boots. I kept pulling out the maps and reading the trail guide. I began floating trial balloons with my family, saying that I was planning another trip. My brother had said that he might go with me. I guess my family got tired of hearing me talk about it and realized that I was going to get this out of my system one way or another.

In the Spring my dreaming began to take shape as a hike from the beginning of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, Georgia to Fontana Dam in North Carolina. This section, including the Approach Trail from Amicalola Falls State Park to Springer Mountain is over 172 miles and should take me just over two weeks if all goes well. I know it's not a thru-hike, but it's as good as I can do right now.
