Welcome to Snuffy's Ski Pages!
If there is one thing that I love more than hiking, it's snow skiing. I've found that as I've gotten older I can't do some things as well athletically as I used to be able to do. My softball team cut me....I no longer play basketball (not that I could anyway), and my golf game has taken a leave of abscence. But even as I've gotten older....gravity still works! I don't ski all the bumps and blacks that I once did, but I still enjoy strapping on a set of skis and plunging toward the bottom of the mountain. And, I can still get to the bottom of the hill with the best of them!
Although I grew up within an hour of the ski resorts in western North Carolina, I didn't learn to ski until I was in college. I didn't know what I had been missing. I really didn't have the money to ski back then in high school or college, but my future wife was working part-time at one of the local ski resorts while she was in college in Boone. We went skiing one weekend when I went to visit her at school. I've been hooked ever since.
Although I can't get in many ski days now, I try to make them count. I usually take at least one trip a year out West to ski. Although I've skied in North Carolina, West Virginia, Vermont, Colorado, and Oregon, my favorite place to ski is Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe straddles the California/Nevada border and is one of the most beautiful places on earth. And the skiing there isn't too bad either. When you combine the view, the snow, and finally the nightlife, Lake Tahoe is hard to beat.
