Code of Conduct for Troop 385

There are many behaviors displayed by scouts that are positive and are strongly encouraged.

Boys and adults are expected to show respect for each other and for individual differences. Older boys are further expected to help the younger boys advance by teaching them life skills and the skills necessary to advance to the next rank in Boy Scouting. At all times, troop members are expected to make the Boy Scout Oath and Scout Law their CODE OF CONDUCT.

Some behaviors however, take away from the scouting experience, hurt others, destroy trust, or keep us from becoming our best and may destroy relationships which have taken years to build.

In keeping with the standards of scouting, the following behaviors will be considered significant enough to warrant action beyond that set forth in the troop rules, and may include being sent home from an outing or meeting.

1.       Harassment in any form - verbal, physical, sexual or racial. This includes intimidating conduct (ridiculing/ teasing) and fighting.

2.       Abusive, threatening or vulgar language.

3.       Possession of firearms or other weapons, fireworks, tobacco, alcohol, drugs or pornography.

4.       Intentional property damage or stealing.

5.       Any act of insubordination (defiance against a Leader).

6.       Improper use of fire, aerosol cans, lighters, or any fire accelerant products.

7.       Any act which may endanger the health or safety of oneself or others.

A conference will be mandatory for any of the above infractions. In attendance at this conference will be The Scoutmaster, the Committee Chairperson, a committee member, the offender and his parents. Appropriate restitution, along with community and/or troop service will be imposed.

The Troop will enforce a “THREE STRIKES AND YOU’RE OUT” rule. This means that three significant offences will lead to a board of review and dismissal from the troop. Severe offences may involve law enforcement and lead to troop dismissal even if it is the first offense.

The Scoutmaster, Committee Chairperson, and the Troop Committee will review this policy annually.
