She married Richard Clarence McMahon in Kieler, Grant Cty, WI, May 1, 1945. Richard was born in South Lancaster Twsp, Grant Cty, WI March 2, 1918. Richard was the son of Clarence E McMahon and Daisy Tuckwood. Richard died July 12, 2003 in Lancaster, Grant Cty, WI, at 85 years of age. Telegraph Herald July 14, 2003 Richard C. McMahon LANCASTER, Wis. - Richard C. McMahon, 85, of Lancaster, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at home, following a difficult and courageous battle with cancer. He died in the loving arms of his wife and surrounded by many of his children and grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster, with Monsignor Dan Ganshert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements. He was born on March 2, 1918, at the home farm on Old Potosi Road, in South Lancaster Township, son of Clarence E. and Daisy (Tuckwood) McMahon. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1936, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1940, with a bachelor's degree in agricultural education. He married Bertha C. Averkamp, of Kieler, on May 1, 1945, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler. They assisted his father in farming until 1951, when Clarence retired and they purchased the family farm. Richard also was a case worker for the Grant County Department of Social Services from 1964 to 1983, while continuing to farm with the assistance of his wife and children. He retired from social work in 1983, and returned full-time to his true passion, which was farming. Richard was a devoted member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Bertha, of Lancaster; 11 children, Steve (Norma) McMahon, of Ipswich, England, Richard W. (Linda) McMahon, of Poplar Grove, Ill., Mary (Nick) Breuer, of Mount Hope, Michael (Mary) McMahon, of Roscoe, Ill., John (Janice) McMahon, of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Kevin (special friend, Carmen) McMahon, of Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii, Daniel (Lynn) McMahon, of Mount Horeb, David McMahon, of Lancaster, Terry (Katherine) McMahon, of Lodi, Tim McMahon, of Lancaster, and Mark (Andrea) McMahon, of Lancaster. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Kolar, of Lancaster; a first cousin, Gladys Wilson, of Oak Park, Ill.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Snyder, of Cuba City; two sisters-in-law, Clotilda Muller and Shirley Averkamp, both of Kieler; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents and stepmother, Jessie McMahon, Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen; two sons, Patrick and Joseph; a grandson, Matthew McMahon; and a sister, Helen McMahon. McMahon, age 87, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 2, 1919, at Kieler, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Schroeder) Averkamp. She married Richard C. McMahon on May 1, 1945, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler. They assisted his father in farming until 1951. When he retired, they purchased the family farm. In the mid-1970s, she returned to school, became a licensed practical nurse, and was employed at the Lancaster Nursing Home for many years. Bertha collected Beanie Babies and she would take outings with Richard throughout the county searching for the newest ones. She enjoyed reading, collecting coins and stamps, and genealogy research. Bertha also enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardens, and always planted many gladiolas, her favorite flower. Bertha was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She is survived by 11 children: Steve (Norma) McMahon, Ipswich, England; Richard W. (Linda) McMahon, Poplar Grove, Ill.; Mary (Nick) Breuer, Mount Hope; Michael (Mary) McMahon, Roscoe, Ill.; John (Janice) McMahon, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Kevin (special friend, Carmen) McMahon, Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii; Daniel (Lynn) McMahon, Mount Horeb; David McMahon, Lancaster; Terry (Katherine) McMahon, Lodi; Tim McMahon, Lancaster; and Mark (Andrea) McMahon, Lancaster; 32 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Clotilda Muller, Kieler; two sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Kolar, Marion, Iowa; and Shirley Averkamp, Kieler; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on July 12, 2003; a daughter, Kathleen; two sons, Patrick and Joseph; and two grandsons, Matthew and Christopher McMahon; her sisters and brothers, Dorothy Snyder, Margaret Kieler, Rita Udelhoven, Mary Averkamp, Francis Averkamp, and Aloysius Averkamp; and her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. CLEMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at ST. CLEMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, where a Catholic Daughters' rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Friends may also call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
