She married John Herman Berning in Kieler, Grant Cty, WI, November 23, 1880. John was born in Mehringen, Emsbueren, Germany April 18, 1856. John was the son of Johan Theodore Berning and Anna Margaretha Heidkamp. John died June 4, 1921 in Sinsinawa, Grant Cty, WI, at 65 years of age.

Catherine Averkamp and John Herman Berning had the following children:

+ 11 i. Anton Theodore³ Berning was born December 10, 1881.

+ 12 ii. Mary Margaret Berning was born September 27, 1883.

13 iii. Joseph George Berning was born in Sinsinawa, Grant Cty, WI August 8, 1886. Joseph died December 30, 1886 at less than one year of age. His body was interred in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sinsinawa, WI.

+ 14 iv. Henry Martin Berning was born February 21, 1888.

+ 15 v. Ida Margaret Berning was born December 1, 1890.

16 vi. John Herman Berning was born in Sinsinawa, Grant Cty, WI March 20, 1893. John died March 9, 1920 at 26 years of age. His body was interred in St Josephs Cemetery, Sinsinawa, WI.

17 vii. Mary Magdalena Berning was born in Sinsinawa, Grant Cty, WI May 27, 1895. Mary died November 20, 1977 in Dubuque, Dubuque Cty, IA, at 82 years of age. Her body was interred in Dubuque, Dubuque Cty, IA.

+ 18 viii. Philomena Margaret Berning was born September 29, 1897.
