59. Vincent A⁴ Berning (Anton Theodore³, Catherine² Averkamp, Anton Vicentius¹) was born in Vinigar Hill, Jo Daviess Cty, IL June 3, 1927. Vincent died October 28, 2004 in Dubuque, Dubuque Cty, IA, at 77 years of age.

Telegraph Herald October 30, 2004 GALENA, Ill. - Vincent A. Berning, 77, of 11562 W. Valley Road, Galena, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Hazel Green, Wis., with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where there will be a scripture wake service at 3:30 p.m., and a family rosary at 7:45 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. He was born on June 3, 1927, in Vinegar Hill Township, son of Anton and Irene (Runde) Berning. He married Anna Callahan on Sept. 20, 1949. His family was his pride and joy. Vincent loved Holstein cows. He was involved in farming all of his life. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he was on the building committee and a religion teacher. He was a board member of Prairie State Select Sires, the Vinegar Hill Town Board and the EMS Board of Galena. He also was past director of Galena State Bank. He spent many hours enjoying and entertaining his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Anna; his children, Gerald (Donna) Berning, of Alton, Judith (Les) Werner, of Verona, Wis., Lynn (Frank) Werner, of Medford, Wis., Tony (Connie) Berning, of Galena, William (Michelle) Berning, of Hazel Green, Peter (Terri) Berning, of East Dubuque, and Chris (Janine) Berning, of Johnson City, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; a sister, Rosalia (Jerome "Bud") Fleege, of Sinsinawa, Wis.; a brother, Edward (Mary Ellen) Berning, of Menominee; and a sister-in-law, Rosalia Berning, of Galena. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Walter and Earl. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in memory of Vincent A. Berning.
