She married Waldo Earl Timm in Northfield, Rice Cty, MN, August 5, 1939. Waldo was born in Milwaukie, OR August 5, 1918. Waldo was the son of Bernhard Paul Timm and Ida May Trumble. Waldo died September 2, 2000 at 82 years of age. A full retinue of military and civilian groups, family members and friends gathered at Portland Air National Guard Base for a memorial service for Waldo 'Walt' Earl Timm, a retired colonel of the Oregon Air National Guard and veteran combat pilot of World War II and the Korean War. Timm, who commanded the base from 1957 to 1962, died Saturday of cancer at age 82. Timm, was an executive officer from the National Guard Bureau in the Pentagon from 1962 to 1972, when he retired as colonel. After leaving the military, he was a civilian adviser for the US Department of Defense until his final retirement in 1980. He moved to Wilsonville in 1990. As a senior military officer, Timm ranked among the leading innovators and "visionaries" in Oregon and nationally, said Brig. Gen. Jim Cunningham, commander and assistant adjutant general for the Oregon Air National Guard. "He was a legend on this base and in the Oregon Air National Guard," Cunningham said. He was one of the architects of the 'Total Force' concept" of training and deployment, mapping the way more that 30 years ago to more smoothly and safely integrate Air Guard and regular Air Force units in war zones. "It made it possible for the 142nd to deploy three F-15 fighters to Saudi Arabia," Cunningham said, referring to Oregon Air National Guard's Portland based 142nd Fighter Wing. Timm was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Milwaukie, where he graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1937. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a B-29 bomber pilot in Guam. Later, he was recalled into the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1939, he married Waleen Cowell; she died in 1999. In July, he married Jean Wakefield. Survivors include his wife, of Wilsonville; sons Gary of Kent, Wash., and Mike of Wilsonville; daughter, Diane of Gleneden Beach; brother, Bob of Milwaukie, five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A private burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society or Shriners Hospitals for children.
