He married twice. He married Julia Hansen. He married Margaret Clara Dickman. Margaret was born in Michigan November 12, 1921. Margaret was the daughter of ? Dickman and ? Keintz. Margaret died August 5, 1994 in Long Beach, Los Angeles, CA, at 72 years of age. Services Tuesday, June 11, 10:30 a.m. Hunter Mortuary Chapel.

The family story is that Mervin was not giving a middle name when he was born, but chose "W" when he enlisted in the service and they wanted a middle initial.
