He was the county's second oldest official from the standpoint of service, being in office continuously over 27 years. The First Methodist church, where services were conducted by the Rev. George Warren Tuesday afternoon, was overflowing with people from all over the county and outside points, and the floral tribute was exceptionally large. Pallbearers were Harry Schuyler, chairman of the county board; G. M. Stapleton, county judge; Bert Carmody, register of deeds; H. A. Gaeth, clerk of court; G. I. Mullendore, county agent, and Ralph Jenquin, of Gardner, former county board chairman. Burial was at Bayside. Stephenson's funeral home had charge of arrangements. Native of County Mr. Herlache was born in Gardner to Mr. and Mrs. August Herlache Jan. 31, 1880, and after completing his early schooling, took business training in Green Bay. He was a little over 20 when he became employed for a few years by the Lyon Bros. Store here, and afterward spent nine years as bookkeeper for the former Halstead-Maples Hardware store. He was elected county clerk in the fall of 1914 and seldom had opposition for re-election. Mr. Herlache was a staunch member of the Methodist church and his only other outside interests were his large garden and, in late years, his cottage on the beach at Jacksonport. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows which also conducted services at the church. Surviving are the widow and three sons, Clifford H., Lloyd and Lawrence, all of this city; two brothers, Vital of Gardner and Desire of Green Bay; half brother Sylvester, Rio Creek; and half-sister, Mrs. Charles DeVillers, Green Bay and six grandchildren.
