Clifford died July 17, 1983 in Sturgeon Bay, Door Cty, WI, at 75 years of age. His body was interred in Bayside Cemetery, Sturgeon Bay.
He married Clara Barney in Madison, Dane Cty, WI, December 27, 1928. Clara was born in Soldiers Grove, WI July 30, 1903. Clara was the daughter of Frederick Barney and Alvina ?. Clara died January 25, 1990 in Sturgeon Bay, Door Cty, WI, at 86 years of age. Door County Advocate January 26, 1990 Clara Herlache Clara B. Herlache, 86, 1236 Memorial Dr., died Jan. 25 at Door County Memorial Hospital. She was born July 30, 1903 in Soldiers Grove to Frederick and Alvina Barney. Following her mother's death she was raised by her father and step-mother Anna. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and had taught school for one year. Dec. 27, 1928 she was wed to Clifford H. Herlache in Madison. The couple moved to Sturgeon Bay following Mr. Herlache's graduation from law school. Mrs. Herlache was a member of the Sturgeon Bay Women's Club, the University of Wisconsin Alumni, the Door County Historical Society and the United Methodist Church. Survivors include children Mrs. Tom (Clara Anne "Bunny") Williams, Baileys Harbor, Mary Herlache, Green Bay, Mrs. Randall (Ruth) Nelson, Ephraim, Ralph (Judy), Jacksonport, and Thomas L. and John l. (Nell), all of Sturgeon Bay. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and sisters Mrs. Orville (Angela) Krause and Frances Cooper, and brother Fred Barney, all of Madison, and sister-in-law Dorothy Barney, Davenport, IA. Mrs. Herlache was preceded in death by her husband Clifford on July 17, 1983. A brother John also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, the Rev. William Dushek officiating with burial at Bayside Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Forbes Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Herlache's name. Door County Advocate July 19, 1983 Bank president, civic leader C.H. Herlache dead at 75 Bank of Sturgeon Bay President Clifford H. Herlache, 75, 1236 Memorial dr., died at his home on July 17 of an apparent heart attack. He has served as president of the bank since his appointment Jan. 10, 1966. Herlache was chief executive officer of the bank since 1937, the longest term in bank history going back to 1889. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist church. Burial will be at Bayside cemetery. Friends may call at Davis Mortuary from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and until 9 a.m. Thursday and then at the church after 9:30 a.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. George Warren and the Rev. Marilynn Rushton. A memorial fund has been established for the Rotary club and the Door County Historical Society. The son of Ralph and Anna Herlache, he was born in Sturgeon Bay on Aug. 29, 1907. Dec. 27, 1928 he married Clara Barney. Mrs. Herlache survives along with children, Mrs. Tom (Claire Ann) Williams, Jacksonport, Mrs. Mary Buckner, Ashwaubenon, Mrs. Randall (Ruth) Nelson, Ephraim, Dr. John Herlache, Tom and Ralph, all of Sturgeon Bay. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a brother Lloyd of Sturgeon Bay. Mr. Herlache was active in many community organizations and through the years held a number of offices. He was a member of Rotary Club, treasurer of the Salvation Army, a member of the Mason, Odd Fellows, Door County Historical Society, UW-Alumni Association and headed and participated in many community fund drives. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1930 he practiced law in Sturgeon Bay serving as city attorney from 1932 until 1939. In 1937 he was elected cashier of the Bank of Sturgeon Bay and in 1948 was elected executive vice president. During World War II he was chairman of the Door County Ration Board. He is also past president of the Door County Chamber of Commerce. In 1972 he received the Mayor's Award for Outstanding Service. He was one of the prime movers behind establishing the industrial park and was instrumental in the move of Manitowoc Shipbuilding to Sturgeon Bay.
