10. John Enoch2 McMahon (Edward Matthew1) was born in County Monaghan, Ireland March 27, 1840. John died September 28, 1914 in Doylestown, Columbia Cty, WI, at 74 years of age. His body was interred in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Doylestown, WI.
He married Elizabeth Ann Starr in Fox Lake, November 15, 1863. Elizabeth was born in NY August 13, 1846. Elizabeth was the daughter of Damien Starr and Susanah Barnard. Elizabeth died April 17, 1925 at 78 years of age. Her body was interred in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Doylestown, WI. Badger Blade April 24, 1925 OLD DOYLESTOWN RESIDENT DEAD AGED WOMAN DIED AT HOME OF DAUGHTER, LAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON Another of Columbia county's most aged and respected residents has been called by death. Mrs. Elizabeth McMahon passed away of heart failure, Friday afternoon, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Susan Kennedy at Doylestown. Elizabeth Starr was born in the state of New York, Aug. 13th, 1846, and came to Wisconsin when two years old, where she resided since. On Nov 4th, 1863, she united in marriage to J.E. McMahon, and to them 10 children were born - Susan, Josephine, William, Edward, Steven, John Jr., Mary, Hugh, Martha and Eaver. Hugh, John Jr. , and Martha (Mrs. A.B. Kirley) have preceded her in death. To those who knew the deceased well she was on of God's noble women. Very intelligent, very competent, having had vast experience in many walks of life which made her a splendid companion. Always willing to assist with her learning those in need of her powers, she was often accorded the "angel of mercy" in many a sick room. Her place will be hard to fill. Her memory will never fade. The funeral was held from St. Patrick's Catholic church, Monday morning, Rev. H.J. Schmitt officiating, and she was buried in the family lot in the presence of a large gathering of friends. Fisher, Mrs. And Mrs. Eaver McMahon and children John and Katheryn, Milwaukee; Steven McMahon, Sheldon, Wis.; the Misses Betsy and Mary A. Kirley of Poynette; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Salzman, Endeavor; John H. McMahon, Peter McMahon, Mrs. Oliver, Mrs. Chas. Hughes, Pardeeville; Mr. and Mrs. Will McMahon, Mrs. H. Johnson and son Cyril, Mary, Eugene, Carl and Ralph McMahon, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul McMahon and son of Portage; David and Chas. Crinion, Beaver Dam; John Dargan and Ed Hughes of Columbus; Mrs. Loyd Jones, Hampden; Mrs. E.F. McMahon and family Doylestown; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin McMahon, Beaver Dam. Five grandsons, Carl, Eugene and Irvin McMahon, Leo Kennedy and Bernard Kirley and a nephew Cutler Starr were the pall bearers.
He served as an officer in the military in 7th Regiment Infantry, Company B. He was inducted into the military in Otsego, Columbia Cty, WI, July 18, 1861. He was released from active duty in Gainesville, VA, November 1, 1862. Badger Blade October 2, 1914 J.E. McMahon died in his home in Doylestown Monday of cerebral hemorrhage, aged 74 years, 6 months, 1 day. John Edward McMahon was born in Monohan county, Ireland, March 27, 1840. At 5 years of age he came to the United States and for 7 years resided in New York until 1852 he came to Otsego, enlisting in Co. B. 7th Wis. Volunteers Aug. 8, 1862. Wounded at the battle of Gainesville, VA., Aug. 28, 1862, and lay on the battlefield for 72 hours. He was honorable discharged in 1863. Nov 15, 1863 he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Starr, at Fox Lake, residing in Otsego for 12 years when they moved to the old home in Fountain Prairie. Ten children were born to their union. John, Hugh and Martha having preceded their father in death. The deceased was a man whose genial personality won him friends and admiration wheresoever he moved. Being possessed of a very determined nature he was always willing and ready to do quickly what he thought to be right. A man who during his life had many offices of public trust conferred upon and was always as faithful to duty's call as he was to answer the first call of his country. A true and faithful friend, an uncomplaining hero, a loved and obliging neighbor, whose place will not be easy to fill. He was a member of Geo. H. Brayton Post No. 271 G.A.R of Fall River and thirteen of his former comrads escorted his remains in Military ritual to St. Patrick's Catholic church Wednesday morning, where the bier was covered by the flag he fought and bled for rested near the sanctuary while Rev. H.R. Murphy chanted Requiem High Mass. The following were his own choice pall bearers: P.F. Kirley, M. Kirley, J.F. Kirley, F. Kirley, D.J. Kirley and A.B. Kirley.
