7. Hugh Peter2 McMahon (Edward Matthew1) was born in Ireland April 5, 1825. Hugh died April 4, 1908 in Fountain Prairie, Columbia Cty, WI, at 82 years of age. His body was interred April 6, 1908 in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Doylestown, WI.
He married Mary Crinion in Portage, Columbia Cty, WI, September 2, 1855. Mary was born in Ireland December 25, 1824. Mary was the daughter of Patrick Crinion and Ann Dillion. Mary died August 25, 1912 in Fountain Prairie, Columbia Cty, WI, at 87 years of age. Her body was interred August 27, 1912 in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Doylestown, WI. Badger Blade September 5, 1912 Mrs. Hugh McMahon died at her home in Fountain Prairie, at 3 o'clock Sunday morning, Aug. 25, of old age, surrounded by all the gratifications of a peaceful death in the 89th year of her life. Mare Crinnion was born in Dublin, Ireland Dec. 2, 1824 and at the age of 20 years immigrated to America. On Sept. 2, 1854 she was married to Hugh McMahon at Portage, Wis., by Rev. Father Roche. She was mother of four children, B.J. Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Dan Riordan, Kaukauna; Mrs. P.F. Kirley and Anthony McMahon, both of Doylestown. Mrs. McMahon was a lady possessed of a very mild sympathetic nature, kind, loving and noble. In her relations with her family, and immediate friends, and neighbors, she was always indulgent, kind and thoughtful, one of those hospital and pious daughters of Erin, whose early training in her "sea girthed home" ever reflected itself in thought and action through a long life well spent in realizing the duties and responsibilities which became necessary for her to assume. She wass buried from St. Patrick's Catholic church Tuesday morning, Rev. F.J. Schmid officiating, and Rev. Robt. Wall of Beaver Dam, an esteemed former pastor , was present in the sanctuary. The burial occurred in the adjacent cemetery by the side of her departed husband. Those present from a distance were Dan Riordan, wife and son, Kaukauna; Mrs. Logan, Nellie Sullivan, James Sullivan, Mrs. Raleigh, Chicago; Katie Sullivan, Beaver Dam; Carnelius Sullivan, Milwaukee; the aged brother of deceased, James Crinnion and son Chas. of Lost Lake; Dan Sullivan of Procter, Minn., Mrs. Gorman, Miss Rugg, Mrs. Finegan, John Garvin and wife, Rio; Will McMahon, Baraboo.i Badger Blade April 9, 1908 Hugh McMahon Mr. Hugh McMahon, another of our pioneers, died as his home in Fountain Prairie, April 4, 1908. Mr. McMahon was born in the Col, Monohan, Ireland in 1825. Coming to America when but a boy, he resided for several years in Batavia and Lima, N.Y. In the early years fifties he came west and located in Columbia county. On Sept. 2, 1855 he was married to Miss Mary Crinion in Portage, Wis., who still survives him. The deceased was a man of sterling qualities ever faithful in business affairs. The weather was never too severe the morning hour, never to early for him to keep his verbal engagements under all circumstances was he ever friendly and jovial, the very soul of good fellowship at all time ready to lend you the helping hand or tender you his services toward the realization of any project which proved itself worthy of his esteem. Many a widow and orphan here and occasion to be grateful for his sympathetic advice or pecuniary comfort. His was not an egotistic or boastful nature. Whenever he performed any of his worthy deeds, his sensitive nature never again wanted to hear it mentioned. As his sorrowing friends encircled his new made grave their unuttered eulogy could be nothing less than he was an indulgent father, a true friend and esteemed neighbor, a good Christian man. The deceased leaves an aged wife and four children to mourn his loss. Mrs. Mary Kirley of Doylestown, Mrs. Annie Riordan of Kaukauna, Anthony McMahon of Rio, Bert J. McMahon of Portland, Oregon, grandson, Daniel J. Kirley who has lived with him since a child and 20 other grandchildren, one sister Liza Connery of Oshkosh two brothers, John E. of this village and Philip of Pardeville. The relatives beyond this parish who attended the funeral were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Dan Riordan and sons Robt. and Ed. of Kaukauna, Mr. and Mrs. A. McMahon, Kate, Philip, Tony and Julian of Rio, Mr. and Mrs. Philip McMahon and Agnes and Mr. and Mrs. Will McMahon of Pardeville, Mrs. Connery and son Thos. of Oshkosh, Miss Jennie McMahon of Milwaukee, Mr. Jas. Crinnion and son Jones of Lost Lake, Pat Sullivan and son Earl of Tomah, Miss Katie Sullivan of Beaver Dam. Friends present from a distance were Dennis Finegan and Anna. Mrs. Chatfield, Kennedy Scott Thos. Ford and John Murphy, Rio. Edward Hughes, Edward Foley and family and Pat Kirly, Lost Lake, and Mrs. Malon, Beaver Dam and Mrs. Mike Kehoe, Fall River. The pallbearers were Frank Kirley, Jas. Frawley, Mike and Thos. Grady, P.F. Doherty and T.R. Slattery. The funeral was held from St. Patrick's church Rev. M.B. Norton officiating. The internment was in the adjacent cemetery in the family lot, which contains the remains of his father and mother.
