He married twice. He married Gertrude Langkamp in Grant Cty, WI, May 2, 1917. Gertrude died 1941. He married Magdalen W Patzner in Dubuque, Dubuque Cty, IA, February 20, 1943. Magdalen was born in Guttenberg, IA November 16, 1904. Magdalen was the daughter of Aloys Patzner and Tina Pluemer. Magdalen died September 17, 1997 in Platteville, Grant Cty, WI, at 92 years of age. Her body was interred in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Tennyson, WI. Telegraph Herald September 19, 1997 Magdalen W. Udelhofen, 92, of Platteville, died Wednesday, Sept 17, 1997 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. She was born on Nov. 16, 1904 in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Aloys and Tina (Pluemer) Patzner. At age 2 1/2, the family moved to a farm near Potosi. Magdalen attended grade and high school there and then graduated from Platteville Normal School in June of 1923, after which she taught in the rural schools of Grant County for more than 17 years. On Feb. 20, 1943 she married Thomas H. Udelhofen in Dubuque. They resided on a farm near Cornelia until November 1950, when they returned and moved to Platteville. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville and its council of Catholic Women. Surviving are a brother, Mellitus "Pat" (Helen) Patzner of Potosi; a sister, Sister Florentine, S.S.S.F. of Milwaukee; one step-daughter-in-law, Marcella Udelhofen of Platteville; a sister-in-law, Alberta Patzner of Potosi; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas on July 18, 1982; her stepson, Raymond J. Udelhofen on May 11, 1989; a step grand-son, Thomas E. Udelhofen in 1982; and three brothers, Alfred, Norbert and Ray. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Dooley officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Tennyson. A Magdalen W. Udelhofen memorial fund has been established. The Mergen-Boll Funeral Home in Platteville served the family. Platteville Journal July 22, 1982 Tom H. Udelhofen Tom H. Udelhofen, 85, Platteville, died Sunday July 18, 1982, at the Southwest Health Center in Platteville after a short illness. Services were held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 1982 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville, with burial in the St. Andrew Cemetery at Tennyson with the Rev. Fr. Francis Schmidt officiating. Thomas was born in Harrison Township July 27, 1896. He lived in the Cornelia area most of his life where farmed until moving to Platteville in November 1950. He was united in marriage February 20, 1943, to the former Magdalen Patzner. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Gertrude Langkamp, in 1941, and a grandson, Thomas Edward Udelhofen. Surviving are his wife; one son, Raymond; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry, of Platteville, and Bernard of Dickeyville; four sisters, Mrs. Pearley (Sophia) Reiter of Platteville, Mrs. Phillip (Mabel) Ames, of Potosi, Mrs. Clyde (Bessie) Clauer of Beetown, and Mrs. Ollie (Ruth) Bierman of Potosi. Friends called at the Mergen Funeral Home from 3-5 and 7-9 Tuesday evening. The rosary was recited by members of St. Mary's parish at 8 p.m.
