29. Francis Nicholas3 Udelhofen (Otto Theodore2, Nicholas1) was born in Cuba City, Grant Cty, WI August 11, 1914. Francis died December 8, 1993 in Cuba City, Grant Cty, WI, at 79 years of age.

He married Jean Ryan in Dubuque, Dubuque Cty, IA, December 9, 1937. Jean was born in Galena, Jo Daviess Cty, IL September 29, 1917. Jean was the daughter of Patrick Ryan and Cecilia Gaffigan. Jean died April 11, 2002 in Cuba City, Grant Cty, WI, at 84 years of age. Telegraph Herald April 13, 2002 CUBA CITY, Wis. - Mrs. Francis (Jean) Udelhofen, 84, of 401 S. Clinton St., Cuba City, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City with the Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City, where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m. Mrs. Udelhofen worked at the Burgess Battery factory in her early years and then worked as a cook for the Cuba City School District for 28 years until her retirement. She was born on Sept. 29, 1917, in Galena, Ill., the daughter of Patrick and Cecilia (Gaffigan) Ryan. She married Francis N. "Sank" Udelhofen on Dec. 9, 1937, in Dubuque, and then made Cuba City her home until the present time. Mr. Udelhofen preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1993. She was a member of St. Rose Parish in Cuba City. Jean was a good and kind mother and grandmother who was always happy being with her family. She enjoyed reading, listening to and watching her country music videos, but especially her time spent at the Senior Meal Site, for noon lunch and her favorite game of euchre. Jean thought so much of all her friends at the site, especially Millie and Mary for the rides and Phyllis, Ruth Ann, Mary M., and all the others who cared and thought about her when she wasn't able to be there. Surviving are three daughters, Sister Mary Jean Ryan SSM, of St. Louis, Joan Brown, of Cuba City, and Joyce (Ralph) Farrey, of Shullsburg; a son, Richard (Sue) Udelhofen, of Cuba City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eulalia Poblocki, of Florida. She also was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Mary Simpson, Marge Hanna, Helen Reardon, and June Ryan, six brothers, Tom, Art, Bill, Frank, John, and her twin brother James Ryan; and a son-in-law Donnie Brown. Co., and was foreman at V. C. Chemical Plant, both in Dubuque. Most recently he had been the caretaker at the Cuba City Post Office. He was born on Aug. 11, 1914 in Jamestown Township of Grant County, son of Otto and Christina (Burbach) Udelhofen. He died of natural causes Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 1993, at home. He married Jean Ryan on Dec. 9, 1937, in Dubuque; she survives. He was an avid sportsman. Also surviving are a son, Richard, of Cuba City; three daughters, Sister Mary Jean Ryan SSM, of St. Louis, Mrs. Joan Brown, of Cuba City, and Mrs. Joyce Farrey, of Shullsburg; and six grandchildren and great-grandchild.
