Finding A Breeder

AKC Registered Bernese Mountain Dogs

Snowbound Kennel is located in beautiful western Wisconsin, and yes, we do get snowbound at times.  Winters are typically fantastic in the Midwest and the Bernese love the cold weather and snow. We run a small kennel, are active in conformation and obedience, and produce very limited litters.

We are careful to research pedigrees and observe dogs prior to mating to insure the best possible pups we can produce.  Our goal is to improve our line with each breeding and to maintain standards for the breed.  Our concentrated effort is to produce dogs with great temperaments.  Our pups are introduced to many levels of age appropriate stimulation, beginning with neonatal at day 3-16.  Each week, until 8 weeks of age, they are exposed to more stimuli and experiences to help ensure solid temperaments as adults. Adult and pups alike receive all natural nutrition. We feel the Bernese is perfect for families and companionship.  They are a working dog so must be trained properly to become a valued member of their family. Basic obedience, at a minimum, is in my contract. Bernese also excel in obedience, drafting, agility and therapy work, as well as the show ring.

Being a large breed,  Bernese are prone to hip/elbow dysplasia as well as other health concerns such as cancers.  Please research this breed.  Your breeder should be willing to discuss health concerns with you as well as nutrition and proper exercise. Your breeder should have health certificates and pedigrees available to serious puppy inquiries. Your breeder should only breed the Bernese & should ask YOU many questions as to your lifestyle and expectations in a pup.
