History - The Spokane Branch
|
|
Mrs. Mary E. Goodall and her husband, friends of original Mother Church Board Member Ira Knapp, moved to Spokane in 1889. They held Christian Science services in their parlor, eventually forming as an official branch church in 1896. First Church of Christ, Scientist, Spokane received its charter from the state of Washington in 1899, and construction began on a new building at 4th and Post within five years. After nearly six decades at that location, the membership elected to purchase the property on 14th Avenue and construct a new church building. In November of 1967 the church moved to the South Hill site. The original cornerstone of the edifice at 4th and Post is displayed outside the northwest corner of the current building.
