Apple "Stackcakes"
materials:
2 rectangular
graham crackers per child
applesauce
cinnamon
paper plates
plastic spoons
procedure:
Stir cinnamon
into applesauce to taste.
Break the 2
crackers into four squares. Give each child about 1/2 cup of the
applesauce and the four square crackers and instruct them to spread the
applesauce onto the first graham cracker, then put the second cracker on
top of the applesauce. Repeat, putting the last bit of applesauce on the
top of the fourth cracker. Each child should now have a four layer
"cake". Let these set for an hour (if you can), then enjoy!
Apple Smiles
materials:
apples, peanut
butter, miniature marshmallows plastic spoons, paper plates
procedure:
Cut the apples
into sections, top to bottom. Cut out the seeds and core. Give
each child: 2 slices of the apple, a spponful of peanut butter, and a small
handful of miniature marshmallows.
Model for them
how to make a mile by spreading the peanut butter onto the cut side of
one of the slices, put the other slice on top and push in the marshmallows
to make the teeth.
Honeyed Apples
n Ice Cream
materials:
electric skillet,
about 2 lbs. of apples, cored, peeled and sliced thinly; 1 cup of honey
and 1/2 cup of vinegar; vanilla ice cream, bowls and spoons.
procedure:
Heat the honey
and vinegar in the skillet. Allow the children to carefully help
you drop the apple slices into the mixture. Stir occasionally.
When the apples become transparent, take off the heat and pour over the
ice cream. Yum!!!
Mini Apple
Pies
Make mini apple
pies with canned biscuits and apple pie filling. Add a little filling to
each biscuit and fold in half. Press the edges closed and bake according
to the biscuit instructions or fry in your electric skillet. Little
apple turnovers!
Red Hot Baked
Apples:
1. Wash whole
apple and ream out core with apple corer or knife.
2. Slice off
bottom so apple will sit flat in electric frying pan.
3. Fill core
with cinnamon red hots.
4. Sprinkle
with cinnamon and nutmeg.
5. Bake in
covered electric fry pan at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
6. Cool 10
minutes
7. Eat and
enjoy!
