What is TALES FROM THE GOREZONE?

Among the many forums at Gorezone there began a familial book forum frequented by authors, artists, publishers, booksellers, collectors, and fans of horror fiction.  Once upon a post, noted author and editor Kealan Patrick Burke proposed a book project.  An anthology of short horror stories to be written, edited, illustrated, and published entirely by Gorezoners with all proceeds from the sale of the book to be donated to Protect, a charity (political lobby) for abused and neglected children.  The idea was very well received and TALES FROM THE GOREZONE was born.

Note:  On 9 October, 2003, the book forum moved to a new board outside of the Gorezone family.  This will have NO effect whatsoever on the book, and in NO way reflects poorly on Gorezone or the good people that hang out there.  It was simply a matter of our book forum outgrowing it's old location.  All of the links to the book forum in this site structure will direct you to the new and improved Shocklines Forum

Excerpt from the announcement of the book on the book forum on 7/27/03.

Here are the guidelines for the TALES FROM THE GOREZONE anthology:

Title - TALES FROM THE GOREZONE

Format - Perfect bound Trade Paperback, 5.5" x 8.5", 60# text stock, 10 pt. cover stock. Book will be issued without ISBN and will be printed and bound by Publishers Graphics in Carol Stream, Illinois.

Publisher - Brian A. Horvath through Apartment 42 Publications

Print Run - From the publisher: "As many as possible. Since I'm doing this on my dime and my only profit will be the warm fuzzy feeling that comes from doing the right thing, I'm going to go with POD (print on demand). I know that some potential contributors may not be big fans of POD, but in this case it both maximizes the donation and eliminates the potential for a financial loss for the publisher."

Distribution - Through Gorezone, the Shocklines Forum, Shocklines.com, and independent booksellers. The almighty dollar rules, and the publisher is unwilling to take money from the charity's pocket to fill a distributor's. A call will be put out to indie bookstore owners in Gorezone and the Shocklines Forum to help move the book, and anybody with web or print space to give us a mention.

Charity - Protect. 100% of net profit to be disbursed quarterly. Each quarterly disbursement will reflect TOTAL revenues less TOTAL expenses for that quarter. The publisher takes none and loses none. Following each disbursement a full accounting report will be published either on this website or by e-mail for anyone who requests it. A statement by Protect will accompany it.

Cover Price: $15.99

Story Guidelines: Stories in TALES FROM THE GOREZONE will be uncategorized. Write a good, scary story devoid of clichéd writing/theme and archetype and you'll make it in. Stories should not exceed 10,000 words. Avoid senseless violence that does not pertain in any way to the story. Same for gratuitous sex. If the story doesn't need it, nix it. I will accept queries at dys7topia@aol.com. If you're not sure your story is a good fit for this book, write and ask.

Your story should be presented in a professional manner as per industry standards (double-spaced, one-inch margins on both sides, name and address in top left hand corner of the first page).

I'm setting a deadline of October 31st for submissions. Simultaneous submissions are fine. No reprints. Response time will vary from 1 hour to three weeks
.

Note:  Submissions will ONLY be accepted from people that were Gorezone members as of 12:00 p.m. Sunday, 27 July, 2003.
