The last time I updated this section, I declared that I would visit New Orleans before half of this year passed. I kept that commitment.

David and I went down the last weekend in April for Jazz Fest. Jazz Fest was the excuse, the city is the reason I went. we found it to be good 'ol New Orleans - at least from the tourist perspective. An alarming note is that crime is picking up and heading for higher levels per capita than it was before Katrina. It seems there was a mugging or killing every day we were down there and that's a LOT considering 2/3 of the population is still out of the city.

John took us for a quick tour of the hardest hit areas (lakeview and lower 9th ward). If he hadn't, the only real indication we would have had of the hurricane would have been the oddly brown cars parked under the elevated sections of the Interstate.

Mr. Bush was visiting one of the days we were there and managed to drive a nail. How proud his papa must be. The entire New Orleans police Department was consumed with the driving of a nail. How proud everyone who voted for him must be.

Ok, so I guess semi-annually doesn't really count as "current" does it? My last update to this site was 12/31/05 and here it is 6/5/06. I suppose I could claim that not much has happened and it would be somewhat accurate, but not totally. When last I updated this page, David and I were in the process of designing our next dream house which we were going to build with JCampbellSignatureHomes. We got a little bit of sense knocked into us in the form of a few interviews with realtors. We decided to sell this house before committing to the next house. Turns out that was an excellent idea. This one has been on the market since late January and nary an offer.

The feedback is generally good. The two most common reasons that folks don't want it are 1) potential buyers either have children or elderly visitors for whom the downstairs secondary bedrooms wouldn't work and 2) this one we've gotten twice now - there aren't enough trees. At any rate, if it doesn't sell, it won't be the end of the world. We let Jill extend the listing contract through the end of the Summer. It's not her fault it's not selling - the market is incredibly soft in this price bracket - nothing else between $500k and $600k is moving.

The greatest implication of the house not selling is that we won't be able to breed Dixie this season. She's due to come in season any day now and we'll have to live through it with diapers again. One thing has changed that will make this season more bearable for us - Dude has been neutered. His OFA x-rays came back "unsatisfactory" so we knew he wouldn't be bred. Dixie's x-rays on the other hand were borderline "excellent." If only she'd mature a little. REALLY wanted to be showing her by now.

That's really the latest and greatest BIG topics. E-me if you've got questions or suggestions for these pages.
