All-Stars Program

Hollis Cal Ripken fields All-Star teams in the 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old age brackets. Hollis travel teams usually participate in 3-4 tournaments starting around the end of June and usually completing around the end of July. Some tournaments may involve some travel but there are no overnight tournaments planned. The travel teams play a highly competitive schedule and there are NO guarantees on playing time. There are only 12 players selected per team, therefore it is important that players (and parents) understand the commitment involved.

To be considered for All-Stars, a player MUST play in a minimum of 10 games or else the player is ineligible (injuries are a valid exception). This is a Cal Ripken league national rule. All of the All-Star teams participate in the official Cal-Ripken District Tournaments for their age bracket. In addition, most teams elect to participate in other tournaments such as those in Swanzey, NH and Chelmsford, MA.

The teams are selected by the coaches late in the regular season. The process involves the coaches nominating players from their own teams who are eligible and available to participate. After this, all the coaches vote on the nominated players. The Minors coaches vote for the 9 & 10 year old All-Stars and the Majors coaches vote for the 11 & 12 year old All-Stars. Any 10's playing in the Majors are eligible for the 10 year old team and input is solicited from the Majors coaches. The top 9 players with at least a majority of votes are automatically selected to the team. The All-Star coaching staff can then select from the list of players the remaining players for the roster. This is done to allow the coaching staff the ability to fill certain positions on a team that may not have been filled by the elected players. For example, a team may only have 1 catcher from the elected players but they need a backup catcher.

If you have any questions about the All-Star program, please feel free to ask any of the coaches or league officers.
