| Yes, I am a cereal killer...
I regularly polish off my 5-year old's Lucky Charms well before grocery day.
I read Frank Thomas' "What's the Matter with Kansas" over the weekend and I see that thinking here. The trouble is not knowing who these people are. They know who we are...but we don't know who they are. Do you think that creates an unfairness? Some of us have up front histories of writing and research but they could be serial killers for all we know. I recently wrote a piece about arrogance and academe. Nothing too special, just my thoughts about Professor Dr. Kathleen de la Pena McCook’s liberal condescension of the electorate without ivy walls. I stand by my remarks. Obviously the piece has struck a nerve among a few of my liberal colleagues, prompting John Buschman’s call for a progressive librarian posse to “out” this sneaky shit. An ironic plea from one among the ALA intellectual vanguard who has written about self-censorship among librarians. It's still called dissention John, and any Futas Award recipient worth their salt should embrace it. Not scheme to put the kibosh to it. Let me make this perfectly clear to all those progressive librarian types that never read conservative piffle. I welcome your thoughts. This invitation also extends to you Dr. McCook, whom I am disappointed to learn chose to solicit the advice of others, rather than reply with her own thoughts directly to me. Remember it was your choice to visit my web page to read this piece. In the spirit of intellectual freedom you may reply, ignore, or blog a rebuttal. Your choice. It has worked well for me and my anonymous detractors at LISNews who regularly attack my thoughts with equal viciousness. You have my email address. This invitation is also extended to you Mr. Buschman, with the condition that you find the courage to speak for yourself, rather than beseech the help of others in your one man pursuit of puerile nonsense. Hardly the reaction expected from a fellow member of the "higher" education academy. That said, if the choice of some colleagues is to connive, seeking a coward’s rebuttal with an information age “outing” (a tactic shared by homophobes to intimidate) then I submit your actions as proof of my original contention. I say to the few sneaky shits, cowering under the skirt of the restricted PLG listserv, the First Amendment blows both ways.
I think we should "out" Tomeboy. I've taken a few minutes to look at his webpage (then wretched), and found 3 significant factoids: Cross referencing this with info. on McClay's "Librarians for Victory" (gag) signup list, I find the following candidates: Stuart Boggs, Librarian - Ohio Jack Stephens, Librarian, Los Angeles Eugene Bier, Librarian - Missouri Whitney Prescott, Librarian - Dallas TX Arnold Jacobs, Librarian - Chicago C. Erik Wilkinson, Librarian - Sanger TX Donald Gordon, Librarian - Wells City, ND The rest of the signatories were either female or listed their job as "reference" or "assistant director", etc. Given how arrogant Tomeboy is, and how proud he is of being a sneaky-shit anonymous attacker (again, comparing himself to Madison when he wrote the Federalist Papers - no kidding...), I think he's full deserving of being unmasked. Anyone want to help out? |
