Boeckhout Family History
A copy of the research notes prepared by Morilla Garrison in 1917
I. Jan Boeckhout came on the ship "In De Puremrlander Kerck" arriving Oct. 12, 1662, with his wife and five children, aged - 12, 9, 8, 4, and 1 year. Settled in Haarlern, NY Was soon engaged as 'Koe-herder c. van gemente desen sters", (herder of the cattle) in New Amsterdam. On April 16, 1667 his herd was 80 head; he later had a farm at Mespat. (Reference - Holland Society Year Book, 1902, page 22)
II Mattys Janszen Boeckhout (whose alias was Janszen, see New York Genealogy and Biographical Record, vol. 10, page 38). His children were baptized 1679-1688. "Mattys Janszen j.m. van Leyden en Lysbeth Elswaerts j.d. van N. Yorck beyde womende alheir, getrowt den 9 June 1675, banns 15 May. (Matthias Janszen, a young man, never before married, of Leyden, and Lysbeth Elsworth, a young woman, never before married, of New York"). "Mattys Beockhours j.wedr. v. Lysbeth Elswaert an Magdelena Rutges wede v. Joris Walgraef, byde wonende to N. Yorck, 25 Oct. 1696 (1656?)" See NY Bio. & Genealogical. Record Coll. Vol. 1, pp 40 and 84 also vol. 5, p 153.
