Memories
of Eggs & Chickens

FROM ANAHEIM TO FOND DU LAC.

by EMMA REINHARDT

They made it official in April of "86
Frances and Margaret were coming back to the sticks;
At this wonderful news we were filled with elation
Our minds were a-whirl in anticipation -
We began to take stock from our heads to our toes
And our collective blood pressure rose.
To our kith and kin, after many a year,
With all of our faults, how would we appear?
With our double chins, pot bellies, limps, halatosis-
Bridge-work, capsules, pills and neurosis
Bunions, hearing aids, corns and shingles,
Piles and pneumonia, and toes that tingle.
We consulted our barbers, doctors and friends
But our mirrors told us we were around the bend.
When Margaret and Frances arrived for their visit
We were all amazed, how could we have missed it?
They were tired and weary, and saw not our flaws -
Guess the Lord drew a veil to cover the years
But it couldn't conceal the spark that was kindled-
And eye-ball to eye-ball, we all shed some tears,
And were soon deep in happiness up to our ears.
