We now have within our means to create a star! GalactCorp has recently released the plans of the StarGen Star Creation Device. This device, over a period of several years, will create a star in a given area. The only current problem is that the amount of energy required is so high that it would require enough mass to wipe out several solar systems.
It has been dismissed by the commercial industries as merely an interesting, if not particularly useful, technology. Steven Chang of NovaCorp had this to say, 'Being able to create an entire star is indeed incredible but what commercial use does that have? Moreover, the types of stars that this technology can create are fairly narrow. You cannot, for example, create a mid-sized yellow star, the type generally needed to sustain an earth like planet. Only tiny white dwarf type stars can be created, which would only be useful as interstellar litter.'
