true is a site-specific installation in the atrium-like space of the West Gallery at the Richmond Art Center.
the long hallway captures sunlight and is punctuated with simple wooden objects and structures; a thirty-six foot long table, a water compass marking north, a pendulum, a plumb-bob, line levels, and glowing light boxes whose internal lights increase and dim with the rhythm of breathing - these are domestic and human objects looking for poetic associations.
peering in from the outside reveals the contained space as a windowed box - a Joseph Cornell-like construction; a box with the means of storing, carrying, and presenting one's belongings, no matter how trivial or how precious.
plumb, square, level, and true are metaphors for being.
