Hairamics

American and Canadian CEDE Higgens is still the Top Winning Yorkie in the Breed even tho his
Specialty Win Record has been "topped", but when he was being campaigned in the late 70s,
there were only three National Specialties a year, so the record was much harder to attain.

These pictures are Terri Shumsky's depiction in Hairamics of this important dog in the History of the Breed.

YORKIE HERO In Hairamics by Terri Shumsky

In the Spring of the Y2K, Terri Shumsky was approached by William Wynne, famous owner of Smoky WWII hero dog to do a Smoky life sized Hairamic that was realistic that could wear the real Smoky's jacket on exhibition at the AKC Museum. "The idea so mezmerized me that I began a journey of sculpting clay, fired, life sized yorkies to fit the Smoky description. Many yorkie lovers sent me hair from their yorkies to complete this project. I made FIVE Smoky life sized Hairamics. Mr Wynne was never charged for this work but it was done out of love and respect for the breed and for the man whose company found this lucky and amusing little rescue. Smoky was her own USO SHOW as she amused the soldiers defending our country. Five Smoky Hairamics were made and four were given to Bill Wynne. One, Smoky 5, was given to a rescue organization to be raffled off for funds to help rescue .
Bill Wynne still has Smoky 3 and Smoky 4. For a time, Smoky 3, was at the AKC Museum on display with the authentic jacket that belonged to the real Smoky. After I finished this work to my satisfaction, Bill Wynne told me that they were trademarking Smoky and that I should not make any more of these pieces in Smoky's likeness. I agreed to this because I felt that FIVE life sized pieces were a challenge and were complete. Mr Wynne and I agreed that Smoky 1 would be on permanent display at University of Tennessee in honor of Dr Karen Tobias for her work in livershunt research particularly in respect to the Yorkshire Terrier
