These are classified ads for books to trade, sell, lend or give away.
How does it work? Because I don't have cgi access, I'll have to do everything by hand. I could use a free service like bravenet or something, but I despise ads cluttering my pages (popup or otherwise) and I want to organize them the way I want to organize them (because I'm weird like that). This means that you email me with your ad, and I'll put it up. You email me when it's answered, and I'll take it down. If you're answering an ad, you email the person who posted it and arrange things among yourselves.
Disclaimer: I'm making no money from this. All transactions take place between you and the person who posts/answers the ad.
Any problems that arise, (meaning someone doesn't send you the book, or it gets lost in the mail or something) are not my responsibility.
Please do not abuse this. I'm working very hard to make this work for everyone. If I get several complaints against a particular user, I'll do my best to not post that person's ads. However, I can't guarantee that I'll be successful.
What books are you allowed to post advertisements for? Basically anything in the fantasy/scifi/horror/young adult category. It was originally intended to be an L.J. Smith classifieds section, but I figured users might want Laurell K. Hamilton, too, or maybe even Spider Robinson.
What should I expect? Please keep in mind that these books will probably be used books. Also read the ad carefully; some people are wanting to trade, sell, lend books or give away. If you lend a book, be prepared to not get it back as some people are jerks. If you borrow a book, please make every effort to return it in the original condition. Please keep in mind that if there's an ad you're answering, someone else may have already answered it, too, so the item(s) may not be available. If it's a book that's being lent, you may have to wait your turn for it. All shipping and handling is to be handled among yourselves. In fact, just so I make it clear, everything is to be handled amongst yourselves, except for the posting/removal of ads.
What do I need to say? If you have a book, it is suggested that you email me the information in this list:
- The title and author of the book
- What you're intending to do with it (Trade, sell, lend, give away)
- The general condition of the book
- What you expect in return, if anything
- How long you intend to keep the ad up. For example, if you only want it up there for a week, I'll take it down a week from when I posted it. (I'll make every effort to post it promptly.) If you want it there indefinitely, I'll leave it up until you email me telling me to take it down.
- A description of the book, if you wish, and any additional information you think is pertinent.
- Your email address. This is important, because whoever answers the ad will be contacting you through it. If you don't like giving out your email address, set up what I call a dummy account, like a yahoo/hotmail/whatever account and give us that address. And, this is important, check your mail. You can add your ICQ number or AIM or whatever if you'd like, but it's not required, especially considering that not everyone uses ICQ or AIM.
If you need a book, email me with the following recommended information:
- Title and author
- What you're willing to give in return, if anything. For example, let us know if you're willing to buy the book, borrow it, trade for it, whatever.
- If the condition matters, depending on what you want, state that.
- If you've been looking for a book but forgot the title/author, describe whatever you can about it and I'll post that. People with possible answers to your questions will either email you or me and chances are someone will probably contact you with the answers.
- Your email address. (See above).
I'm just starting out doing this, so please email me with questions you have; I reserve the right to terminate this service if it becomes too much for me to handle. Let me know how I'm doing ;)
