President:  Ben “Kryer” Merrill

Vice President:  Tony “Not Last” Bennett

Secretary:  Matt Montgomery

Treasurer:  Della “Half-Point” Mozzini

      John “Two Falls” Considine

Our next meeting, and elections of officers will be held on Dec. 2, 2005.  All paid-up members are eligible to vote.   We will be having a potluck prior to the meeting, beginning at 6 p.m.  So git on over to Kryer’s, bring some grub and enjoy a few hours with fellow club members.

Minutes of the November meeting

The November meeting was called to order at 7:25 on November 4, 2005.  There was no treasurer’s report, however no money was spent or taken in, so the balance remained the same.  Minutes of the October meeting were read and accepted as written.  John “Two Falls” Considine reported on the October shoot.  All went well.  Pat Argyle won and there was a 3-way tie for second.

The Nevada Day Parade was a success!  There were lots of good comments from spectators.  We had 11 participants in the parade and made lots of noise.

Nominations of officers were held.  Results can be found on page 1 of this newsletter.  We decided to have a  potluck before the Dec. 2 meeting.  We will eat at 6 p.m. and commence the meeting about 7 p.m.

Lakes Crossing Muzzleloaders Holiday party will be 6 p.m.,  Jan. 14, 2005 at the home of the late John “Greybeard” Moeller.  His daughter, Moira, now resides there and has graciously offered the home again for the annual get-together.  All Eagle Valley members are also invited to attend.  It is a potluck, so bring your favorite dish and your beverage of choice.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

November Shoot

The November shoot was attended by John Considine, Jim Mozzini, Tony Bennett, Ken Barr, Patrick, Roger Stephens,   The weather was pretty nice and all had a fine time.  We think Jim must be practicing, as he out-shot us all!

Some Muzzleloading Safety Do's and Don'ts

DO’s

Read and understand your instruction manual. If you didn't get one with your muzzleloader, order one from the manufacturer. They will send you one for free. Many companies now have a web site and online manuals are common.

Wear shatterproof shooting glasses and ear protection, as both percussion and flintlock guns may shower sparks and bits of caps/flints when fired.

Treat a misfire or failure to fire as though the gun can fire at any second. Wait at least a minute with gun pointed at the target.

Be sure all spectators are completely behind you when firing. Flames and bits of caps/flint sometimes exit from the side of the gun. It is good shooting etiquette to warn other shooters that you are about to fire a flint lock next to them.

DO NOT

Never fire a muzzleloader unless the ball is firmly seated against the powder charge. Firing a muzzleloader with the ball off the powder or part way up the barrel may cause serious damage to the firearm and possibly serious injury to the shooter.

Do not exceed manufacturer's recommended maximum powder charge.

Never use FFFFg black powder for a charge in any muzzleloader at any time. The only safe use for fine priming powder is for the priming of a pan on a flint lock. Fine powders will cause excessive pressures and could very well burst your barrel.

Never lean over (or stand in front of) the muzzle at any time.

Never attempt to shoot out a projectile which is not firmly seated against the powder charge
